Managing Director

Joseph Miles

As a formerly incarcerated male in the Federal Prison System, Joseph knows first-hand the trials and tribulations faced by youth growing up in the California Juvenile Court System, as a result of various traumas he endured as a child. In his plight to reinvent himself and prove to others that there truly is no such thing as a lost cause; he’s gone on to accomplish several major milestones.

Post release from prison, Joseph obtained work in the Seafood Industry. His knowledge and experience lead him to creating his own Seafood Brokerage (The Seafood Source, based in Seattle WA) with focus on import & exports. His passion for art lead him to create The Art of Fusion (International Art Importing). Here Joseph, imported and brokered art acquired in SE Asia and sold the works through multiple channels in the US. Including but not limited to department stores, art galleries and real estate staging companies. Through his numerous contacts overseas, Joseph sought to further his career in the Fast-Moving Consumable Goods field.

This resulted in the formation of two international companies, Asia Fine Food Purveyor Sdn Bhd, a ship chandlery service based in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia with offices in Hong Kong, Manila and Indonesia. At the height of this endeavor Joseph employed some 63 people to man his practices which focused on supplying Cruise Ships in the South China Sea. He also formed EastWest Solutions Sdn Bhd based in Penang Malaysia that focused on supplying Fast Moving Consumable Goods to high end hotels and restaurants, as well as the Royal Australian Air Force Base.

After spending several years abroad and traveling to some 32 countries and acquiring proficiency in multiple languages (Bahasa Melayu, Bahasa Indonesian, Tagalog, Thai & Vietnamese) he returned to the US to care for his terminally il father. To fulfill his promise to complete his education, Joseph attended San Francisco State University where he worked for Associated Students Incorporated & Project Rebound. It was here that Joseph realized his passion working with youth and those recently released from prison. In his role as the Office Administrator, he engaged in outreach and routinely traveled the country on behalf of Project Rebound speaking in symposiums, prisons and juvenile facilities. Since, Joseph has endeavored to take up the mantle and ‘right the many wrongs’ in the criminal justice system. He undertook creating a program that he felt would best serve the formerly incarcerated and marginalized community (centered around at-risk youth).

That program later developed into CYCLE Inc which he formed in 2019 with the help of former colleague and partner, the late Mr. Kali O’Ray (posthumous Co-Director of the San Francisco Black Film Festival). Joseph graduated San Francisco State University as a Double Major, earning BA degrees in both International Relations and Criminal Justice. In addition to his role as Managing Director of CYCLE Inc, he is currently seeking to improve upon his education by joining a PhD program with the interest in Education.
