Based in Northern California, City Youth Creating Lifelong Experiences (C.Y.C.L.E. Inc.) is a startup Non-Profit, Youth Guidance/Counseling, Life Coach service which deals with marginalized inner-city youth as well as those located on Indigenous lands/reservations.

Born out of the belief that there is potential in everyone, C.Y.C.L.E. Inc.  believes investing in a young life is a human rights imperative. All youth deserve the opportunity to be seen and heard, participating in society’s advances and its democratic practices. We believe that by prioritizing a more significant investment in young people that face social inequities, we can create confidence that their human rights are recognized and enforced, encouraging the youth's active and meaningful participation in their community, and society at large.

These issues exemplify why C.Y.C.L.E. Inc. is utilizing local community professionals, deemed “Mentors”, aimed at inner-city and Indigenous youth who need real-life inspiration in real-time.  Having accomplished great things in tough places, they best recognize when potential is allowed to be discovered and activated, a young individual will have the ability to live their best life and move forward despite any adversity obscuring their path.

In the past, assistance programs traditionally serviced Indigenous youth on reservation lands and inner-city youth on separate platforms. At C.Y.C.L.E. Inc., we understand that the youth's obstacles in urban centers are not much different from those faced by their peers on the reservations in that a similar sense of hopelessness and despair exists in both worlds. Paying homage to my deceased father of Iroquois descent, we have decided upon a cohesive plan of combining these worlds and creating a circle of understanding and cultural exchange.

By creating a program to service both cultures, we will teach our students to embrace cultural differences as challenges to overcome and admire. We will focus upon bringing these individuals together in concert with our Mentors, inspired volunteers from the community, to complete an array of projects–as individuals or part of a group. Using art as the medium, our students will employ their creative energy to produce original forms of expression. Upon completion, these works will then go on display (in our proposed gallery) and be made available to the public for purchase. At this point, the proscribed course of the apprenticeship will be deemed complete, with each participant earning a certificate of validation and course completion. The Mentors in their professional capacity will also furnish a signed letter of recommendation for hire chronicling the student’s success. C.Y.C.L.E. Inc. believes this accolade from a professional source will prove helpful in elevating the student’s potential in acquiring a career in the field of their choosing.

C.Y.C.L.E. Inc. will facilitate an exchange of cultures by allowing students to engage in organized activities featuring our Mentors to promote social health skills as circumstances allow. The proposed deal will involve bringing young adults from the reservation to the city and engaging them in learning activities, and, conversely, taking inner city youth to the reservation, creating a perpetual cultural exchange program. We will focus on the various forms of “art” as a medium of expression, but our goal is to encourage the youth to choose education and personal growth over a life of gangs and other nefarious activity.

At C.Y.C.L.E. Inc., we passionately believe in the potential of young people. We know that they are the future leaders and the change-makers for the communities in which we live. The challenges that marginalized young people face is abuse and neglect, multiple foster care and group home placements, lack of continuity in education, and an array of loss of peers, friends and family members. These unfortunate circumstances can erode instances of inspiration and positivity, resulting in mental illness, alcoholism and substance abuse problems, subpar education and a lack of confidence. These challenges associated with out-of-home placement greatly impact the youth's emotional and social development as they transition into adulthood, with many facing slim prospects of fulfilling their life and career ambitions.

C.Y.C.L.E. Inc. is dedicated to positively inspiring and strengthening our youth’s mindset by mentoring, guiding, coaching, counseling, and encouraging proper management of personal barriers in life that are impediments to their desired growth. By creating an awareness of their struggle, we hope to change what is seen through the shroud of low self-esteem, using imagination and expression to improve their vision.  We will render service to the community by connecting our Mentors on a personal basis, unraveling the different layers our youth have adapted to cover up their hurt and pain, which may have obscured any positive image of themselves as a productive and much-needed asset in the world. Through creativity, C.Y.C.L.E. Inc. hopes to help lift that veil.
